What Are the New Canada Post Stamps for 2026, and Where Can You Buy Them?

Canada Post stamps cost $1.24 each in a booklet and $1.44 for a single stamp in 2026. That's for a letter or postcard mailed within Canada.

But stamps are also tiny pieces of art, and 2026 has had some good ones: hip hop pioneers, wolves, sugar shacks and cherry blossoms. Here's everything in one place: what a stamp costs in Canada right now, which one to use, the new Canada Post stamps released this year, and where to buy them.

How much is a stamp in Canada? (2026 prices)

Where you're mailingUp to 30 gOver 30 g to 50 g
Within Canada (booklet or coil)$1.24$1.75
Within Canada (single stamp)$1.44$1.75
To the United States$1.75$2.61
International$3.65$5.21

These are Canada Post prices for standard-size mail, which covers regular letters, cards and postcards. Prices are before tax. Stamp prices keep rising as Canada Post mail volume falls: about 2 billion letters in 2025, down from 5.5 billion in 2006.

Saving tip: buy stamps in a booklet or coil. You pay $1.24 per stamp instead of $1.44, which is 20 cents off every letter.

What is a Permanent "P" stamp?

Most Canada Post stamps don't show a price. Instead they have a P where the price would be. That's a Permanent stamp, and it's always worth the current domestic rate, even after prices go up.

A booklet of Permanent stamps you bought in 2024 still mails a letter across Canada today. That's why stocking up before a price increase is a smart move.

Stamps with a printed value (like $1.75 or $3.65) are worth only that amount. To make up a bigger rate, combine stamps until they add up.

Which stamp do I need?

  • A letter or card within Canada: one domestic (P) stamp
  • A postcard within Canada: one domestic (P) stamp. Canada Post charges postcards the same as letters. See how much is a postcard stamp
  • A letter or postcard to the US: a US stamp ($1.75)
  • Anywhere else in the world: an International stamp ($3.65)
  • Heavier than 30 g (thick cards, several pages): you'll need the 30–50 g rate

Coming later in 2026

Where to buy stamps in Canada

  • Post offices and postal counters. Many are inside pharmacies and grocery stores
  • Convenience stores and pharmacies that sell stamps at the checkout
  • The Canada Post online shop, which has every current design, souvenir sheets and collector items

Collectors should look for souvenir sheets and first day covers, which Canada Post sells for most new issues.

Will Canada Post stamp prices go up again?

Probably. Prices rose about 25% in January 2025, when a booklet stamp went from $0.99 to $1.24. In late 2025, Canada Post warned that more increases were likely in 2026. As of October 3, 2026, the prices above are still current on Canada Post's site. If you mail a lot, Permanent stamps bought now protect you from the next hike.
